Homemade Magic Shell with two ingredients

Magic Shells are great toppers for ice cream but the problem with them is they contain a mess of stabilizers and chemicals that are hard to pronounce. Aside from that, a bottle of Magic Shell is pricey for the amount of chocolate your getting. Amazingly, homemade Magic Shell is easy to make using stuff you already have in the kitchen. All you need is chocolate and coconut oil.

Estimated Time: 15 minutes

Materials:

  • 7 ounces Chocolate (you can use any kind, milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, dark chocolate, peanut butter, or even butterscotch)
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut Oil (you can substitute vegetable oil also but you won’t get the nice coconut aroma that comes with coconut oil)

Directions (double boiler):

  1. Heat up the chocolate in a double boiler until everything is nice to smooth.
  2. Add coconut oil and stir until it is incorporated with the chocolate
  3. pour on ice cream and watch the magic.
  4. Store in an airtight container. (you can use an old ketchup bottle or maple syrup container)
  5. You have to heat up the chocolate in the microwave for 30 seconds to get it going every time you use it.

Directions (Microwave):

  1. Place chocolate and coconut oil in a microwave safe container or bowl.
  2. microwave for short bursts of 15-20 seconds stirring every time you take it out.
  3. Continue this until the chocolate is well incorporated and smooth.
  4. Store in an airtight container. (you can use an old ketchup bottle or maple syrup container)
  5. You have to heat up the chocolate in the microwave for 30 seconds to get it going every time you use it

Notes:

You have to heat up the chocolate every time you want to use it as a topping but it’s a small price to pay to have homemade magic shell without all the chemicals and preservatives.

You can also use this on Popsicles, frozen bananas, cherries, strawberries, and pretty much anything else that is good with chocolate!
Let me know what you guys used your homemade magic shell for or any modifications that you made!
